Open Invitation To Shoot Photos of Guns…and Guns

I’m extending an open invitation to all Edmonton and area photographers to shoot some pictures and some guns. Like this nickel plated M1911A1 pattern .45 ACP semi-automatic pistol.

Firearms and the shooting sports are pretty photogenic, there’s lots of textures, action, smoke, and even fire. However, you can’t just go to the store, buy a handgun, drive out to the boons, and take some pictures while shooting it. That’s probably a good thing. My hillbilly wife is demonstrating proper firearms safety here while looking a bit deranged with our M14 7.62 NATO* semi-automatic rifle.

I’ll also teach you basic firearms safety, and a little about Canada’s firearms laws. That’s particularly important because I’ve seen a lot of photos of groomsmen with guns that capture them doing things with potentially rather harsh prison sentences. For example the following photo, besides not being safe, would have been illegal to stage in Canada. However this child with the AR-15 .223 Remington semi-automatic rifle was not in Canada, and in fact was staged under police supervision.I know this because I am the lad and the police officer was holding the camera.

I love firearms, they’re a lot like cameras actually, they have fiddly mechanical parts, you shoot them, and dictators hate them in the hands of the people. Also shooting properly with a gun, or a camera requires similar control and stability. Good shooters are good shooters, regardless of if it’s a camera or a gun.

So if you’re interested in having some fun at the range and learning a bit about firearms, contact me.

You’ll have a great time with this 10/22 .22 Long Rifle semi-automatic rifle.

* That M14 is a Norinco M-14S and it’s chambered in .308 NORINCO which is interchangeable with the 7.62 NATO and .308 Winchester.
