Why do they put windows behind sinks?

Our new used townhouse has a window behind the sink. I know this is very common, but I don’t understand why it’s done. Presumably the sink is usually used for washing dishes and filling containers. You’re not going to do a lot of window gazing while doing those things. Especially not with a view of a parking lot. You kind of have to look at dishes to wash them. If those cupboards were there, we’d have 27% more cuoboard space!
Yeah, that’s how my wife looks when she’s washing her lunch plate.
